As part of its quest to support great causes in the local community, Rallye Motors served as the main sponsor for the eighth annual Long Island Cruizin’ For A Cure Car Show, promoting prostate cancer awareness.
“We at Rallye believe it is important to stand behind programs which highlight the success rate of early cancer detection and the need to fund research to find cures for these diseases,” said Joseph Stanco, president of Rallye Auto Group. “It’s a win-win for men and their families; early detection saves lives.”
Long Island Cruizin’ For A Cure is a unique event, as it is the only car show on east coast that offers free on-site PSA prostate cancer screening tests. Its mission is to promote prostate cancer awareness and raise funds for prostate cancer research. In 2012, a total of $20,000 was donated to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory for scientific research.
This year, over 3,500 attendees enjoyed entertainment from DJs Fonzie and ChaChi, a popular doo wop groups, a Kids Fun Zone with a model race track and video game arcade, a food court, a 50/50 raffle and much more.
More than 600 vehicles participated in the exhibit, including the SMART electric provided by Rallye Motors, which was the event’s lead sponsor for the fourth year. For car collectors and enthusiasts, there were hot rods, custom cars, muscle cars, classic cars, specialty vehicles, antique fire apparatus and motorcycles.
As in the past, there will be a special tent where PSA prostate cancer screening tests will be. Volunteers wearing blue Long Island Cruizin’ t-shirts encouraged men to take advantage of the free PSA tests conducted on site by Winthrop University Hospital. Men with elevated PSA readings were referred to their physicians for follow-up.
